Description and Strategies:

The Mushroomy Kingdom is a graphically enhanced version of World 1-1
and World 1-2 from the original Super Mario Brothers. Which one of
these two stages appear depends upon the music that plays. So, you can
actually customize the likely-hood of a stage to appear by changing
the options in the My Music menu.
Music that was played above ground in it's original game will cause
World 1-1 to load. Music played Underground (and underwater) in its
original game will cause World 1-2 to load.
The stage progresses by slowly scrolling to the right. And upon
reaching the flagpole (or warp zone) that stage will loop, and this
will repeat until the match ends.

For both of these stages, the character with the biggest advantage is
Peach. Why? Peach can jump high, hover and float for long periods of
time at a quick pace. This will allow her to easily avoid the
obstacles in the middle of the course. Also, her turnips can hold
foes in place long enough for them to be shoved off the scrolling
stage. The rest of her techniques are also well-balanced as all will
blast opponents side-ways. Of course, hit them to the left for best
results.
And lastly, her final smash, which is next useless in most stages, can
deal a good deal of damage here. Her smash will put opponents to sleep
for an extended period of time while you heal yourself with peaches
that fell from the sky. A well, timed final smash can put opponents to
sleep just long enough for them to scroll off the stage, but keep in
mind that airborne enemies cannot be put to sleep until they land.
This can be a bit of a problem when facing opponents experienced at
using Pit and Peach. However, a well-timed final smash can throw off
even the most experienced players. For example, using a final smash
while they are underneath a block can prevent them from making an
aerial escape. Also, try timing the final smash so that enemies go to
sleep before an obstacle, such as a warp pipe. This way, even if they
do wake up, the obstacle may throw your enemy off just enough to have
them KOd (especially since both the obstacle and the other player will
be off-screen at once).

Not a fan of Peach? Quick and high jumping characters like Sonic can
also be used well in this stage, as it will be harder to get caught up
in an obstacle as the course progresses.

Changes

When I first began the Brawl Custom Stage Collection, I thought it would make to be an awesome feature for the podcast. What I didn't realize is how quickly it would gain popularity and how much time it would take to manage it.

Actually, it's far too much for one person to manage as much as I have been. BUT I have NEVER given up on anything before! Anything that I start, I will go through with and finish 'till the very end!

And so, it is for the reason that I am proudly happy to announce that I am promoting Mr. Zach Joyner to administrator of GamersCast's Brawl Custom Stage Collection!

With a two-man army, I think that we can help to make this work!

However, I will still continue to play a role in the stage collection by managing the BrawlStages YouTube Channel and by typing stage descriptions and strategies.

However, Zach (better known as Spades) has kindly offered to do the rest. And so, he will be posting new stage submissions here and will have limited FTP access to main site's server so that stages will be posted faster than ever. He will also be accepting the BrawlStages e-mail address (I'll still be doing that as well).

It's a whole new beginning for our stage collection.

However, due to an attempted security breach, I have that my web hosting account has been locked. And so, the Stage Collection will be on hold until I am able to unlock the account and create an FTP username for Spades.

I am sorry for the continued delay in the management of the Brawl Stage Collection. And I sincerely thank all of you for your continued patience and support of the project. Don't worry, the wait will be over soon and will definitely be worth it, as there are now even more tricks up my sleve that I have yet to tell you all about! So, stay tuned.

Undergoing Renovations....

UPDATE: I have fixed the problem with the capture device (fixed it enough, at least...) and so the Brawl Custom Stage Collection will be re-opening again! The Stage Collection will re-open on Sunday May 25, 2008. Sorry for the delay!

Many people have been asking me, wondering if I "gave up" on the Custom Stage Collection. Thankfully, the answer is NO.

However, many of you have expressed great concern from the lack of updates on this page. So, I suppose I should explain myself.

During this current period of time, you may or may not have noticed certain issues with the capture device I have been using to put up videos. Problems with device include a 1-second lag, which makes games and stages look harder than they actually are in the final video. And also, from a lack of 16:9 wide-screen support, which I have been trying to capture in for all of my videos. Another problem is a rare occurrence of the audio and video going out of sync, though this is fortunately only an issue with the longer videos, and so the gameplay videos here have mostly been unaffected by this.

And so that I do not further impair the quality of the content on the Custom Stage Collection, I have stopped capturing videos until the problem is fixed. Right now, I am very close to resolving the issue, so updates will soon continue again as normal.

Also, to make-up for the time lost during the wait, I have found a few people who are exceptionally skilled at making stages, who will be making more just for the collection. This way, we can improve upon the already phenomenal quality of the stages here.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this wait may have caused, but I also thank you for your continued patience and support of the site. So, even during this period I will still be accepting any stages you wish to send in. If you want to submit your stage to the Brawl Custom Stage Collection, click here.

Also, this may be just a tad off-topic from the announcement, but for those of you whom are interested, may be somewhat excited to know that my written, audio, and video review of Super Smash Brothers Brawl is now online. Description and Strategies:

Smashville is a very simple Animal Crossing themed stage. It's very
simple, as it's almost exactly like Final Destination aside from one
platform that moves horizontally above you.

Actually, for this stage, you can just look at my strategy for Final
Destination
. Just remember to take that one platform into account.
Most often it will only be used for evasive maneuvers, but as it is so
low to the ground any character can reach it quickly and easily. Also
a balloon may occasionally float overhead, usually carrying some
food. A simple tap will break the balloon and let you take the item.
Of course, balloons will not appear if food is shut off in the Item
Switch.

Also on Friday nights after 8PM (based on your Wiis internal clock),
K.K. Slider will appear and only K.K. Music will play on the stage.
Also, in case you care, the clock attached to the Smashville Town Hall
will show the actual time (based on your Wii's internal clock).

________________________________

Description and Strategies:

The Bridge of Eldin was taken from from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight
Princess. It's usually a pretty straight forward stage. It's like Final
Destination
, except you can't fall off the stage (in the traditional manner, at least).
However, part way through the match you will hear a warning trumpet
and a moblin riding a boar will stampede across the map. The moblin
can come from left or right, and will drop a bomb, which will break
off the middle of the bridge. And after about a minute or so, a
Twilight Portal will appear, restoring the bridge.

Here it is best to use characters who can jump high or fly. Reason
being is, you will need to be able to jump over the moblins, and the
gap in the bridge. So, characters like Ike will be a bit impaired
here, as he cannot jump the gap in the stage.

But aside from that, it is a very straight forward stage, and you
should pick whoever you are best at using. Just make sure who you pick
has a good balance of jumping and power. Sideways smashes are most
effective here, as the stage is relatively low.

My personal choice for this stage would be either Ness or the Pokèmon
Trainer.

________________________________

Description and Strategies:

Battlefield is the 2nd most basic stage in Brawl, next to Final
Destination
, of course. It consists of 4 platforms.
The main stage itself is just a little bit tighter than Final
Destination
, but the 3 floating platforms do add some strategy to the
game. And like Final Destination, Battlefield has been around in every
one the Smash games, unless you count the massive facelift it got
between Smash 64 and Melee.
Anyway, the stage's very basic design prevents any one particular
character from having an advantage, but fighting styles will require
some sort of strategy to win here. The floating platforms are good for
avoiding enemies with range attacks, and a number of different final
smashes that would be hard to dodge in Final Destination (like Mario
and Zelda's).
Aside from that, fighting is basic. The idea is simple: Weaken your
enemies in the middle of the stage and smash them off the sides. Or
you could also choose to smash them upward from the top platform, for
characters with good recoveries, like Pit.

________________________________

Description and Strategies:

Final Destination always has been identified as one of the most
simplest stages in the Smash Bros. series. It has been in every Smash
game so far, and in each game its design remains exactly the same.

Final Destination gets its name, as it is the last stage you will see
while going through Classic Mode. It's simply a flat plain, so the
whole stage is open for anything! The stage symbolizes that you are at
the end of your journey and that you can't rely on gimmicks to help
you. The only way to win is by pure skill.

As it's such a simple stage, there really isn't much additional
strategy I can give you other than basic combat tips.
Just remember to stay in tight, through off your opponent by
shielding, rolling, and countering attacks. Just be sure to stay on
your toes at all times.

Items can still play a factor here. It is the only thing holding a
match back from being a battle of pure skill.
Remember to use items to your advantage. One of the changes in Brawl
is that you can now grab items while your running, in midair, and
while on the ground. So you'll have to be quick in order to get to the
item first.

________________________________

Description and Strategies:

This stage is a near perfect recreation of the classic Pong board,
from the timeless classic game: Pong. But not only does the stage look
great, it actually is a perfectly balanced fighting arena in Brawl!
You will begin above the stage where the same strategies as Final
Destination apply. Except one detail: You are so high up right from
the start, that it doesn't take much to smash someone of the stage
right from the start of the match. You should especially watch out for
Lucas and Squirtle in this area, though they are much more harmless in
the other areas of the stage.

A bit further down the score of the Pong match reading "5-3" of the
Pong match, these are made out ice and are in very tight quarters, so
this area is the best place to weaken your opponent, as long as you
are cautious and take ice into consideration. It takes a good deal of
skill to effectively weaken your opponent here. One little slip and
you'll fall to the bottom portion of the stage.

In the bottom portion of the stage, you will be on flat terrain, and
as its the easiest to brawl on, is where most of the fighting will
usually be taking place. However, to add further strategy to what
seems to be straight foward, the Pong paddles are on the left and
right sides of the stage. The right paddle is very low and will
usually deflect most rightward smashes. So, you're best bet usually is
smashing foes to the left, though very little luck comes into play as
the enemies could also be deflected by the left paddle, but this is
rare, given its height from the ground. Otherwise, basic brawling
strategies apply.

Also, as far as choosing characters go, you should go with whoever
you're most comfortable with using here. However, keep in mind the
surroundings before choosing. For example, Olimar's final smash will
always hit off the top of the stage, where fighting is rarely ever
done, so though all enemies will have taken a significant amount of
damage, the final attack of the ship will almost always miss. Ike, on
the other hand, has the best suited final smash for this stage, as it
is almost a guaranteed KO everytime! This is because Ike significantly
weakens opponents then smashes them upward from the uppermost
platform, where they will very quickly die. However, you will end up
right where they respawn, where it will be easy for them to kill you
after the technique is over. So, after finishing the final smash, make
a run for the bottom of the stage before they come back!

Quick Announcements!

I have good news and bad news.

Bad News:

I am very sorry to announce this, but it is becoming very hard to to write strategies for every single stage here. So, from now on I will only be making strategies for stages that are scored at a 4 or 5 out of 5. I am very sorry to do this, but it needs to be done in order to move things along.

Good News:

However, once I am done with all the 4s and 5s I work on the 3 out of 5 stages in my spare time.

Also, featured and static stages will have strategies made as always.

Also, Zach Joyner, otherwise known as Spades (the one who has been remaking the featured stages here), will also be joining the team soon so that stages will be able to be posted even faster!

________________________________

Description and Strategies:

The stage has a pretty straight foward design, that is very similar to
some other stages that we have seen before. It consists of one
straight line of falling blocks, with only two stationary blocks (one
on each end) for a break.

Now, since one block is hardly enough room to face off with your
opponent, you will be forced to do most of your fighting with blocks
falling all around you. So, your best character choices would be the
quick and flying characters with the exception of Charizard and
Jigglypuff.

Using JigglyPuff in this stage is completely reckless! Why? Well,
almost all of Jigglypuff's special techniques can result in his death!
The rollout would either have you fly off a ledge or the gaps in the
course, caused by the falling blocks. Sing wouldn't work as enemies
don't have enough damage to stay asleep long, and by the time you
finish singing the block you are on would have fell off the stage.
Rest wouldn't work, as everyone is moving around so much it is even
harder to hit with here. And even if you do hit someone with Rest,
they won't have enough damage on them to be KO'd, as you have just put
yourself to sleep the block you were on just fell off the stage. And
even Pound has a recoil long enough to put you in jeopardy of falling.

And Charizard is so heavy that when he does fly, he goes a very short
distance at such a slow rate, it make it increasingly difficult to
avoid falling and trying to fight at the same time.

The positive side to this is once Charizard either gets KO'd or SD's,
Squirtle will appear! Squirtle is very light and quick and can easily
manuever through the stage and fight at the same time, as if it were
nothing at all! And unlike Jigglypuff's rollout, Squirtle's Withdraw
can be stopped quickly enough to avoid death and get back into the
fray, though this does require some skill at controlling Squirtle's
Withdraw. And with enemies constantly falling, it's the ideal place to
use Squirtle's Water Gun, to give opponents that extra push off the
stage. Squirtle is quick enough that he should be able to get to the
blocks pushed off to the side and charge his Water Gun, before leaving
himself open to being attacked.
The only down side to Squirtle is that he will eventually get tired,
so once this happens switch out to Ivysaur for a couple minutes and
quickly switch back to Squirtle while on the stationary blocks.
Ivysaur is as decent and average as most characters are on this stage,
so you should be able to hold your ground long enough with him to give
Squirtle the time he needs to rest.

Also keep in mind that ledge grabbing cannot be achieved on falling
blocks, so be sure to pick a character with a good recovery, making
the Star Fox characters less than ideal (as you can clearly see in the
gameplay video. XD).

Also good to use here is Toon Link, as he is pretty strong and fast,
and is pretty deadly when used properly. The only caution you may need
to take with him is that the platform underneath you doesn't fall
while performing his final smash. If it does, you will hover during
the technique, but you will fall afterwards, and the game won't let
you use your B-Up move to recover. And like I said before, you cannot
ledge grab the falling platforms.

Now, the last exception to the quick and flying characters is Sonic.
Why not Sonic? I mean, he is the fastest character in the game.
However, it takes an incredible amount of skill to control Sonic here.
He moves so fast that he may be difficult to stop before falling off a
ledge. Also his homing attack, may betray you by causing you to chase
your enemy off the stage. And his final smash, being as difficult to
control as it is may leave you in a tight spot once it wears off.
Think about it. Super Sonic will be charging into opponents, and most
characters will be in a constant struggle to stay afloat here. That
means, you may need to go under the falling blocks to get your kill.
But when Super Sonic attacks, it sends them upwards, so you may have
actually just saved your enemy! And then, what happens if your final
smash wears off while you were under the falling blocks going after
the other players? You die, and it'll go down as a SD. So, you may end
up saving your opponents and killing yourself! Kinda defeats the
purpose of Super Sonic, doesn't it?

But let's say Sonic is your absolute best character than you may be
able to pull it off using him. But remember all the dangers I just
mentioned about using Sonic. It takes a player with extreme skill and
control to use Sonic effectively in this course. So, while it isn't
impossible, I would not recommend using Sonic in this course.

Who would I use?
I'm keep this one short and sweet because there ain't much else to say
about this one.
I myself would use Toon Link, for his unique combination of strength
and agility. Just be sure to watch out for the aftershock of his final
smash.

Design Tip: Using Inclines

One of the most under estimated and under utilized tools in the Brawl
Stage Builder are inclines.
Inclines can radically change the outcome of almost any match. How?
Here's a simple example: On Final Destination, (a perfectly flat stage
with no gimmicks) Pit could shoot an arrow clear across the stage
without being interupted. But if there was a slight incline in the
center of Final Destination, the arrow would hit the incline instead
of your opponent. This one slight incline has made using all range
attacks, on the shorter side of the incline, completely useless.
But inclines do much more than that. Here's another example. Two
players are an equal distance apart on Final Destination, both are in
pursuit of the Dragoon part in the center between them and (assuming
they both run at the same speed) they would reach the Dragoon at the
same time. However, if there was a slight incline between them, the
player who has to climb up the incline would take longer to reach the
Dragoon.

And this is just one slight incline we're talking about. Imagine how
much damage a few more of them could do! Inclines force players to add
additional strategy towards the way they play the game.

Now you will notice the one incline you are able to use is at a steep
45 degree angle. But what if you don't want your incline to be at that
sharp of an angle? Well, adjusting the size of an incline doesn't just
make it bigger, it changes the slope too!
As with most other parts there are 3 sizes to choose from: small,
medium, and large.
Small inclines have the steepest angles at 45 degrees with a slope of 1.
Medium inclines aren't as steep with a slope of 1/2.
And large has the smallest angle with a slope of 1/3, even though it
occupies the most room on your map.

Sorry, if that got a bit too technical or confusing for some of you.
But inclines, even though they seem as if they are relatively simple
parts, can actually get quite advanced and deadly when used and placed
properly. I would recommend playing around with inclines until you get
the hang of using them effectively.

Design Tip: Saving Free Space

Most of you might keep pushing the Consecutive button straight across
the bottom of the stage to make a floor, but wonder why you ran out of
space by the time you're close to finishing your stage.
I too found myself in this predicament when making the DK 100M Stage.
So, what can you do? Well, adjusting the size of your building pieces
actually saves space, whether you believe it or not. In fact, after
removing and resizing the floors in my 100M stage, I found that not
only did I have enough space to finish making the stage, but I also
had loads of room to spare!
But of course, like I said in my other post, just because you have
room to spare, it doesn't mean you need to use it all. Just make what
you intended to make, and end it!
Of course, this resizing tip works with more than just floors, it also
saves space with almost every other part you have available to you.
However, also take note that changing the sizes of parts may not have
the same effect on some parts as it does others, like ladders and
inclines.

Design Tip: Keep it Simple

The Brawl Stage Builder has loads of content you can add to your
stage, but just because you have all these tools available, that
doesn't mean you have to use them all!
Most often, stages with gimmicks won't have as much appeal as simple
arrangements of basic floors and panels. Yeah, the gimmicks are fun
for a while, but they won't last very long.
From looking at all the stages I have seen come through here, I've
found that a simple inclined floor can massively change the outcome of
an entire match. Actually, inclines can effect matches so much, that I
made an entire post about them!

Also, on the note of keeping it simple, don't just fill up a stage
with crap, just because you can. Courses filled entirely with
structures can become annoying, as it will become increasingly harder
to die, to the point that almost all strategy is taken out of the
game, and the outcone of the match is entirely in the hands of luck.
So when making your stage, leave openings, so that players will have
to use strategy to get the KO. Sure, go ahead and block off the sides.
This will cause players to have to adjust their strategy so that they
will have to use either an upward smash or meteor smash to KO their
opponent.
Just make sure that there is always some kind of opening, or some way
that opponents can die.

Design Tip: Tweak your Friend's Stage

You ever notice how your friend might sometimes send you a really
awesome stage, but there's that one annoying thing about it? Well, now
there is a way to edit your friend's stage!
Usually, you can't edit stages your friends send, but there's a really
easy way to remove the edit lock from the stage. All you need to do is
copy the stage from your Wii to your SD card. Now just edit the stage
from the SD card and you will find that the lock on the stage is now
gone.
So, go ahead, tweak the stages and send them in! Just be sure to give
your friend credit for the stage too!
All the stages downloadable here also have the lock removed as well,
so you can even tweak the stages you download here and send them in
again. Think of it like an open source program that anyone can
contribute to!

________________________________

Description:

This stage was featured and sent out to all Super Smash Brothers Brawl owners on March 19, 2008.

This stage consists of falling platforms in the center of the stage, along with blocks on the side, preventing sideways KOs. The makes one large ferris wheel near the top of the stage the most ideal place for battling. Also you can't just stay on that perch above the stage, as it is blocked by spikes. This stage is one that requires you to stay on your toes at all times. In this stage, the tide of the battle can change very quickly.

First off, as skyward KOs are your only option, I would recommend using a character with a strong A-Up attack, such as Lucas. However, this game was designed so that the more you use a single technique the less powerful it becomes. So, don't just use the A-Up attack. Weaken your foe with some specials and other techniques, before charging up with the A-Up Smash Attack. Also, Lucas' Final Smash would be ideal here as well. The tight fighting space makes his PK Starstorm quite hard to avoid, to the point where a player may have to choose between either being hit by the PK Starstorm or getting stuck in the middle while dying from the falling block. However, only perform the final smash on the ferris wheel, or else you will self-destruct from the falling blocks.

Another ideal choice would be Jigglypuff. As players will need to take high amounts of damage before they can be KO'd in the only possible way, a sing will put foes out long enough so you can perform a sleep and blast them off the stage. However, do not attempt this unless you are on the ferris wheel. If you do this while on the falling platforms, either then sing or the rest will may cause you to fall to certain death. And even if you are physically able to make it back up after a Sing attack, a smart opponent may be able to box you in using the other falling platforms. Jigglypuff's final smash is hit or miss here. It's usually used to push enemies out of the stage from the side, but that's not an option here. However, it might just trap other opponents between Jigglypuff's massively large body and a falling block, forcing them to go down. However, Jigglypuff would not be credited for the kill in that sort of scenario.

Out of these two, I would recommend using Lucas, as it's a bit harder to perform the Sing-Rest combo than it is to perform a simple A-Up Smash with Lucas. Not to mention performing that combo with Jigglypuff can be a bit risky with all the falling platforms around.

More Changes... UPDATED!

Well, apparently this blog got popular a bit faster than I thought it would. So, what do I find after coming back from vacation? After one week, of me not even being at home to update, I come back to find 30 new stage submissions in my inbox. So, it was then that I realized that I had to change what I was doing to get these up quicker.

So, do you remember how before stages would come up slowly, but when they did everything was there? I can't do that anymore. It takes too much time to just wait on one stage. So now, I'll be putting stuff up as they become available. So, every bit of each post won't be up all at once. But many pieces of a lot more stages will be available. So, even though it may look slower, it will actually allow me to put up many more stages much faster.

This method will also make the gameplay videos for the stages, the first thing available. For example, today more than two dozen gameplay videos were just added to the BrawlStages YouTube Channel. But sometimes YouTube can be slow to process, so it will sometimes take a while for videos uploaded to show up on the channel page. So, in order to find out about a new stage the second it's uploaded I would highly recommend subscribing to the BrawlStages Channel on YouTube. To subscribe click the "Subscribe" button at:

http://www.youtube.com/BrawlStages

UPDATE: I will also soon begin to be posting stage design tips, so you can all begin to make better, more entertaining stages.

UPDATE 2: Also the MPEG-4 Downloadable versions of the gameplay data will take a LOT LOT longer to show up than before, if ever. But this will allow me to up a dramatically higher number of stages, quicker than ever before.

UPDATE 3: A lot of people have been enjoying the strategies for the stages that I have been writing, but of course as these are custom stages I am giving strategies for it won't be too often that you will be able to apply these strategies. And so, I will soon be making exclusive combat-tested strategies for every one of the stages that comes included in Super Smash Brothers Brawl! And, like the custom stages here, each of these posts will also come with a gameplay video, and screen shots of the stage.

Once they become available, they will be listed under the "Static Stages" category on the left.

Description:

This stage is like a combination of Random and Big3. It's plastered with random objects all over the course, to the point where it is hard to be KO'd. One of the only sure-fire ways to get the kill is through meteor smashes, which would work perfectly here, considering how high the damage meter will get before someone finally dies. The best opening for a normal kill is by smashing opponenets upwards, but the top is so empty and high-up that it would be hard to lure your opponent up there to begin with. Not to mention, that many of the platforms up there will fall upon touching them.

Because of how much damage you will take before getting smashed out of the stage, it's best to use a character with a good recovery here. Also because of the vast number of platforms, a flying character would also be best. This way you will easily be able to make a quick escape. So, this level is best suited towards Jigglypuff and Pit. But probably, it would be better with Jigglypuff, believe it or not.

You must think I'm insane for picking Jigglypuff, right? So, why chose Jigglypuff here?

Jigglypuff's ability to quickly fly around is a great asset for this stage. Her singing, can keep opponents asleep for very long periods of time once they have accumulated lots of damage. A well timed and positioned sing, will make it easy to smash opponents out of the arena (given you put them to sleep while on the side of the ring). Even if you only get the chance to put your enemy asleep in the middle of the ring, damage here should get high enough for you to execute a rest attack and send your opponent flying out of the arena! And there's enough obstacles in the course to ensure that a rollout attack won't result in a suicide. And it's just as deadly here as anywhere else. But be sure, to have some skill with rollout before trying it. Because without some skill in the technique, you may not fly off the side, but could go out of control and fall off the bottom of the stage.

Announcements and New Features!

Some of you have been sending in emails getting a bit panicky on why I haven't posted anything over the past week. Well, I was on a ski vacation in Vermont, at this really awesome resort called Smugglers' Notch. Anyways, ski lifts closed at 4 everyday. So, I started making new stages at night, which will all soon be added to the collection. Also, while I was there, I met some other Brawl fans who also made some stages for the stage collection. I even updated some of the other stages that I already uploaded to the collection.

So, don't worry! The project is very much still alive. And I will continue posting updates this Monday!

UPDATE: In a recent edition of Nintendo Power, the magizine actually had an interesting article on howto make better custom stages in Brawl. I will soon be making a post highlighting the main points in the article, so that this way, future stages that are uploaded to the collection will be of a higher calibur. I would post the article in its entirety here, but as a service to the paying subscribers of Nintendo Power, I will not.

The article went on to show some very creative stages made by the NP staff, and that they would show more stages in future issues. I will be reconstructing these stages and posting them to the collection as well. They will soon be listed under a new category titled "Nintendo Power". And like all other stages posted here, they will be posted with screen shots, gameplay videos, gameplay strategies, and a description of the stage.

And one more thing....

If anyone has made an update to their stage, they can send the newer version to BrawlStages@gmail.com
But be sure to mention that it is an update to a stage that is already here.

When a stage is updated an entirely new post will be made, and all new info will be posted about the stage. And a link to the newer version of the stage will be added to the original post here.
The original stage will also still be available for download, unless requested tone removed by the stage's creator.
If a stage is requested to be removed, the post will be editted accordingly. However, the gameplay video will still remain on YouTube, in order to avoid broken links and confusion. Though, the video page will also be updated to link to the newer version of the stage.

UPDATE 2: Any stages that were submitted to the collection, but were not yet posted, should become available within the next week. And they will be posted in the order that they were submitted.

The guide on howto upload your own stages to the collection will be available soon.

UPDATE 3: As I have been looking at many of your stages over the past few weeks. I have to say, while some have been quite impressive, others have lacked. And all of the stages, that have been lacking all have very similar design arrangements. So, now on this page I will also be giving design tips for making better custom stages in Brawl. It will soon be listed in its own category on the left, labeled as "Design Tips".

Description:

It's hard to describe these kind of stages. They're the kind that have limited lasting appeal because of the immense amount of objects crammed into a small space. Because of this, you will find that it is a bit a bit difficult to be smashed out, and that includes with final smashes.
The stage mainly consists of short ladders, falling blocks, and ice. Because of the immense damage you will build up before finally being launched, I would recommend a character with a good recovery to use here. So, characters like Ike won't work as well here.

__________
Description:

This is one of those crazy stages made just to see how far and wildly out of control you can fly. The stage is a giant box, with only one hole in the top left hand corner. This hole is the only way to defeat your opponents. And though characters like Pit may be able to use the momentum of a smash to escape the box, there isn't much else to do but take even more damage, as the entire top of the stage is lined with spikes. To make things even more painful, you re-spawn right above the spike pit! So, after re-spawning (if you're crazy enough not to make a timed or sudden death brawl), it's a race to that little hole so that you can get back into the fight without taking too much damage.

Some items may get caught on top of the stage, but enough will appear inside of the box to make things even more hectic, final smashes included. The only characters who may have an advantage here are characters, who can smash opponents straight up into the air. So, I have found that Pit, Ness, and Lucas are best on this course. Why? Well, considering how high the damage meter will go, a simple PK Thunder may be enough to send enemies flying out of the little hole (given you hit them while they are directly above the hole). Pit will be able to fly up, avoid attacks, and escape from the hole to snag items in the spike pit and chucking them down below. Also, Ness and Lucas' PK Thunder also comes in handy for getting the Smash Balls, which form outside the giant box.

Make sure that you have time to kill before starting a Brawl in this one!

Nintendo's Featured Stages

As you know, Nintendo sends out one user-created stage to be featured on every Brawl owner's console for one day. But, you can't save those stages and after one day you'll never see it again. That's what inspired me to make this place.
But what if you do want to see those exact stages again? Well, for that I have somewhat of a solution. Everyday I will be capturing gameplay from the featured stage of the day, and after a given amount of time (too hard to explain why there's a waiting period) they will all be posted on the BrawlStages YouTube Channel!

Gameplay Videos from the downloadable stages will also be posted there as well. Non-downloadable videos will be labeled as "Brawl Stage Builder: mm/dd Featured Stage". However, in my free time, I may also re-create those featured stages and make them downloadable.

When I post gameplay from the featured stage of the day, it will NOT be posted here, only on the YouTube Channel. Only stages that are downloadable are posted here. However, if I (or anyone else) does re-create a featured stage, it will be posted here.

The Brawl Custom Stage Collection YouTube Channel can be found at:

This stage I made is called Vertigo. It consists of two conveyor belts moving inwards towards a gap in the center of the stage, lined with blocks. In that gap is a ladder, so that if you do fall, you have a chance at recovery.

However, hovering above the conveyor belts is a block. If anything it all lands on top of this block it will falls through the gap, wiping out everyone who's still inside.

Your main focus should be to stay out the middle at all costs, and with the conveyor belts constantly pushing you towards certain death, you always have to keep on your toes.

This stage is clearly this person's first attempt at making a stage judging from the random placement of the objects in this course. In fact, there's so much here, it can be difficult to smash someone out of the stage, even with a final smash.
The creator chose to call this stage "Random", and from looking at it, that's exactly what it is.
The stage also shows how virtually anything is playable, so there still is some limited appeal.
High jumping and flying characters may have an advantage here.

Brawl Custom Stage Collection

Hey everyone!
Now, very soon (if not already), Nintendo will be releasing one user-created Brawl stage everyday. Awesome, right? But there's only two problems. You can't download the featured stage, and all the previously featured stages will be deleted the next day. So, while it does give you a reason to boot Brawl everyday. It can also be quite annoying.

So, here we are! From the makers of GamersCast: Video Game Podcasting, comes the Super Smash Brothers Brawl Custom Stage Collection!

It's a directory of custom stages from Super Smash Brothers Brawl that you can download and play on your Wii whenever you want!

And it gets better, not only will I be adding stages that I have made, but all of you can contribute with stages of your own. Now, a couple of other sites are attempting to do something like this, but what makes this one different?

I will be testing and rating every stage that is uploaded here! Along the side you will notice some tags, such as: "5 out of 5", or something like that. This way, all of the best stages are grouped together!

So, unlike other sites where you can only look at a pic and say "well, i guess it looks cool", now you know that IT IS cool! XD Also, you guys can contribute by commenting on the posted stages!

Brawl stages will begin appearing on this page sometime within the next week or so!

Edit: I will NOT be rating stages that I have created, since I do not believe it's very fair. Stages I create will be placed in a category of its own (they may not be rated, but they're all pretty good).

To submit your stages to be posted here, send them to BrawlStages@gmail.com

A video of the gameplay for each of the submitted stages will be posted along with the stage on this blog. All videos of stage gameplay is hosted at:

YouTube.com/BrawlStages

How to Download Brawl Stages

Alright, just so you can enjoy what's up here so far, here's a quick guide on howto download Brawl stages from this site. If you're confused, don't worry, because a detailed video walkthrough of the entire process is also being made!
Once completed, the video walkthrough will be viewable at:
http://www.youtube.com/BrawlStages

WHAT YOU NEED:

To download stages from this site, you will need two things. Both of which are both common and inexpensive for those who do not own them.
What you need is an SD Card, and a way to connect your SD card to your computer.
Most computers now have a slot you can insert an SD card into, even some printers let you transfer files to an SD card.

If you do not have any way of connecting an SD card to your computer a USB adapter can be used, which costs between $10 to $20. If you do not have an SD card, a basic one can also cost about $10 to $20. And if you would rather use your own mini-SD or micro-SD card instead (which I WOULD NOT recommend doing), and SD adapter can be used, which also costs about $10 to $20.

How to Download and Play Stages on this Site:

First, you download the stage you would like from this site. The file you download will be a .bin file and cannot be opened on your computer, so don't try it.....

Next, you will go into your SD card's drive (from "My Computer" on Windows or the Desktop on a Mac).
Open the folder called "private" (if it does not exist, make it, so that it's written exactly like it is typed here, without quotations)
Open the folder called "wii" (if it does not exist, make it, so that it's written exactly like it is typed here, without quotations)
Open the folder called "app" (if it does not exist, make it, so that it's written exactly like it is typed here, without quotations)
Open the folder called "RSBE"(if using Japanese version it will be called "RSBJ"; if it does not exist, make it, so that it's written EXACTLY like it is typed here, without quotations)
Open the folder called "st" (if it does not exist, make it, so that it's written exactly like it is typed here, without quotations)

After that, drag the stage you downloaded from this site into the "st" folder, make sure that you did NOT change the stage's original filename. And you're done! You can now go ahead and play this stage on your Wii!

If that filename already exists in the "st" folder, you can either overwrite the other file (but that will be deleting another custom stage already on your SD card), or you can rename the filename with "(2)" at the end.
So, if the original file name was "st_080312_1419.bin"
The new filename will be "st_080312_1419(2).bin"

If you are still having trouble send me an e-mail at: BrawlStages@gmail.com

How to Add Your Stages to this Site!

Want to submit your stage to the collection shown here? Well, fear not, it's a lot easier than you think! But if you're just the kind of person, who absolutely MUST see it, in order to understand it, (I'll admit I'm one of them) then worry not! I am also working on a video guide on how to upload your own custom Brawl Stages to the collection here!
Once available, the video version of the guide will be viewable at:
YouTube.com/BrawlStages

If you already know how to upload stages, simply send it to me, as an e-mail attachment to:
BrawlStages@gmail.com
and it will be posted within a few days. To help shorten the time it takes to become available, adding screenshots and a gameplay video (or one already on YouTube) will speed up the process. (With every post here, I include a screen shot and a gameplay video of the stage)

And now, without further a due, here are the instructions on how to upload your custom Brawl Stage to this site:

________________

1st step in uploading your stage is actually making your stage. Before
attempting something new, I would highly recommend looking over my
Stage Design Tips.

After making your stage, you are going to need to get it onto your
computer. To do this, scroll over to your stage on the stage builder
menu. Look at the timestamp on the stage on the top right corner of
your screen and remember (or write down) what it says.
Now, copy your stage onto an SD card, and put your SD card into your
computer.
Now, in Windows, double-click on "My Computer", and then open the SD card drive, which should show up in the next window that appears (if it doesn't contact your computer's manufacturer, or if it's an adapter, contact the company that made the adapter).
If you are on a Mac, just open the SD card right from the desktop.
Now in your SD card, open the following folders:
private->wii->app->RSBE->st

Now in this folder, look for a file with the same timestamp as your
stage. So, if your stage was made on March 19, 2008 at 2:00 the
filename will read:
st080319_0200.bin

Now just attach that file to an e-mail and send it to: BrawlStages@gmail.com
Just let me know how you would like to be plugged or credited for
your stage. A blank email will result in an anonymous stage. You may
submit as many stages as you like, but please attach only one stage to
each email
. In your email you can also tell me anything you want to
about your stage, including ideas or concepts that went into making
it. You don't have to, though... But you could, if you wanted to.

For each stage I receive I will make screen shots, gameplay videos, a
description of the stage, and strategies to use in the stage. Each
submitted stage will also be scored on a scale from 1 to 5. Don't be
discouraged if you get a low score. Just look at the comments I made,
fix the flaws, and resubmit it, and it may do better.

All stages are posted in the order, which I receive them. Stages are
typically posted within a couple days after their submission. However, it
could take longer if I have gotten a lot of stages recently, or if I'm
busy, but if this were to happen, I would let you know in advance via
email.

Also, providing gameplay video or screen shots of your stage will
speed up the process of how quickly your stage will appear in the
collection. No off-screen footage will be accepted.

Note: If you make a change to that you already submitted, you can resubmit
it to us, and we will update it here to match yours. Keep in mind that
each time you edit your stage, the timestamp changes.

Have fun! :)
